Such Great Heights: Week 4 Summary

Such Great Heights: Week 4 Summary

Has it really been a month since we waved goodbye to Montreal and set off on this adventure? The calendar doesn’t lie, nor the odometer, which is now somewhere around 6666 kilometers - so yes, it really has been 4 freaking weeks of adventure. We’re not yet at the halfway point, but it has already been a rather rich experience!

Having survived Mardi Gras last Tuesday with (much) help from Alex - look out for a separate post accounting for that pandemonium - then caught up by air with Jean in El Paso on Thursday, here comes the update:

  1. CLIMB: I’ve had my first two days of self-guided climbing on North Mountain in Hueco Tanks. Goddammit, rock climbing is hard, and it’s extra hard in Hueco. On that first day, I rode the emotional rollercoaster pretty hard as I struggled to complete V1s, failed continuously on barely-V2s, and ran away scared from THE V3 (the one that set the standard for the grade) on that first day. Much meaning-of-life and am-I-worthy pondering ensued (illustrated below). The highlight of the second day was sending Nobody Here Gets Out Alive - a super-fun V2 (video coming!). It took everything I had, and I basically ended my day around 1pm (after getting rather emotional again during the hike to and the touching of Ghetto Simulator). 8/10.

  2. READ: Reading The Clean Money Revolution, and getting my mind continuously blown. I also came across Paul Beatty’s The Sellout at the Ranch, which, being entirely unaccommodating to idle skimming, hooked me from the first page and refused to let me put it down. Just wish I was actually doing the reading a bit more consistently. 9/10.

  3. QUEST: No session last week. I am meant to be journaling, but so far I’m failing miserably at keeping up - will get on that. No score this week.

  4. FRENCH: Still considering dropping this goal - only holding out because Dan and Marie (hi y’all!) might be able to help when we meet up in Las Vegas in 2 weeks. 0/10.

Pondering: am I ever going to get this?

Still pondering: did I actually have any fun?

Wanna Help?

I’m suffering mainly from Bruised Ego Syndrome over here in Hueco Tanks (yes, I know, my life is terribly hard) - so send virtual love and hugs, please! I miss y’all!
